Friar Blowfly's relationship with Skarab goes back, as do many others, to the campus of Mansect Tech. The friar was a highly regarded though eccentric professor there at the time, and taught the Mansect History 101 course where Skarab and Biff first met. It was in Friar Blowfly's classroom debates that these two ex-best friends began forming their opposing political ideals.

Friar Blowfly is an avid student of Earth history, with a special interest in Earth wars, especially the American Civil War. He collects Earth guns from that period(a highly illegal pursuit by the way) with the help of Colfax. He fancies himself as an aristocratic, courtly gentleman born at the wrong time, in the wrong place, and as the wrong species, and conducts himself accordingly. The only exception to this is the way he eats, which even Mansects think is a disgusting spectacle.

During his career as a college professor he authored a steady stream of stage plays, mostly centered on his fantasies of returning to Earth. None were ever produced, a source of lifelong frustration for the old cootie.

Shortly after he taught Skarab he retired, and the two struck up a personal relationship based largely on the fact that they both like humans pretty well.

Though Friar Blowfly has wings he thinks flying is undignified and doesn't do it much. This alone is enough to make most other Mansects think he's completely batty.

Skarab overlooks the old bugger's oddities and values his wisdom. More than most Mansects, Friar Blowfly embodies the unspoken yearning of the race to someday return to their home planet.
